EN: Upgrade SolidNetWork License Manager
Most companies have their SOLIDWORKS licenses on a network. So, when it comes to upgrading SOLIDWORKS it is necessary to first upgrade the SolidNetWork License Manager (SNL) on the server machine before upgrading SOLIDWORKS on client machines.
You have to make sure that your version of SNL Manager on the server you would like to install should be same as the latest version of SOLIDWORKS you want to run on your client machines.
So if you want to run SOLIDWORKS 2021, 2022, and 2023 on the client machines, then you have to install SNL Manager 2023 on your server.
Before upgrading the SNL Manager, confirm:
Receipt of a new SNL file before the current license expires. (This is for Option File Activation, not for User Activation Method)
No clients are running SolidWorks. In Windows, click Start, All Programs, SolidWorks SolidNetWork License Manager, SolidNetWork License Administrator. The License Usage tab shows clients running SolidWorks.
All Borrowed licenses must be returned prior to upgrading SNL manager. Review the license borrow status on the License Usage tab of the SNL Manager.
Instructions
Follow the steps below
1. Transfer the License:
Usually, it is a good idea to transfer the license before you upgrade the SNL manager. To do so, Launch SNL manager on server machine > Server Administration > Modify >Transfer license. Make sure you write down your serial number as this will be needed in further steps.
Next, check the option to “Move your product licenses to a new/upgrade computer”.
If you have more than one serial number, select the “Select All” option.
Once you’ve deactivated the license, you can then proceed to the upgrade.
Copy the serial numbers for your record.
You can use the same media/download as you would use for the clients, however, you will want to select “Server Products” from the menu. With the license manager being previously installed. It should default to this option. You will get a notice about a pending reboot, but you will see this always by default even if you have rebooted. It’s recommended to reboot before the installation, but it’s not required.
2. Upgrading a SOLIDWORKS License manager
For upgrading a SolidNetWork License manager follow these instructions:
Start the installation manager and select the option to upgrade the license server.
You should not be required to re-enter your serial number since this stored in the registry and does not get removed by default.
Once the installation has been completed, there is still one major step to finish. You are still required to re-activate.
Launch the license manager. It may prompt you to re-activate as seen in the message below. If not, you will need to click on Modify.
Run through the process of activating. Once this is complete, you are good to go!
3. Install the new version of SNL manager:
As you have already downloaded the file set for the new version, extract the files. Now right-click on setup.exe and click run as administrator. This will launch the SOLIDWORKS installation manager. On the welcome page, Select Install server components and then select Install SolidNetWork License Manager on this computer.
Once you click next, on the serial Number page if prompted, enter your SolidNetwork License serial number(s). Use a comma between serial numbers if you are using multiple serial numbers. Click Next and then select Install.
4. Activate/Reactivate the License on the new SNL manager:
Once the installation is finished we have to reactivate the license.
A. The Latest Version of SolidNetWork License Manager now includes a shortcut Reactivate button. This allows you to bypass the previous method of using the Modify License Information and will proceed to reactivate existing license(s).
B. In the Reactivate Licenses window you have the option to reactivate all available serial numbers or select a ingle item using the Serial Number drop down menu. Select the Reactivate button to proceed.
C. The next page will ask for your computer name and port number. We suggest using all the default values listed on this page, unless the ports here are currently in use by other software. Also, it is recommended to select A firewall is in use on this server. This will allow the SolidNetWork License Manager to work through a firewall, using only ports 25734 and 25735 inbound to the server. Click Next
D. Note: If an engineering manager or administrator has created and put an “Options File” in place to control license usage, please check the mark and add file path in place. Click Next. (This is only for “Option File” activation).
4. You will now connect to SOLIDWORKS over the internet and the product will be registered and activated.
5. Your SOLIDWORKS network license is now reactivated.
6. Press the Finish button to complete.
