How to install BRIGADE/Standard and BRIGADE License Manager
Description
This is a simplified guide for first-time BRIGADE users. It covers the essentials for installing the program and setting up the license server (BRIG_LM) using a test license.
For more advanced installation and configuration (e.g., redundant servers, integration with other FLEXlm-managed products), please see the complete guide included in your installation package at:
C:\Program Files\Technia\BRIGADE Standard\{version}\doc (if installed at default path)
Prerequisites
Before you start, note that:
You need a valid BRIGADE license file from TECHNIA.
If you’re already a BRIGADE user/customer:
Send your service request via Technia Customer Care.
If you are new to BRIGADE or do not have access to the service portal yet:
Send a mail to sales.simulation.nordics@technia.com and we will contact you.
The license server (
BRIG_LM) shall only be installed on one computer in your network.All other computers that will run BRIGADE must be able to connect to this license server over the network.
You will need an installation file for either a patch install (to upgrade a existing version) or a full install.
Download BRIGADE/Standard software installers from TECHNIA Download Portal
Optional - download the BRIGADE License Server installer if you are installing a server on your local machine.
Important:
If you install the license server on a different computer than the one where BRIGADE is installed, that server must always be online and reachable whenever you want to run BRIGADE. Many first-time users miss this and believe BRIGADE is not working when the server is offline.
Step-by-Step guide
Installation Order
Always install in this order:
BRIG_LM (License server)
Skip this step if you know that there is a BRIGADE license server already installed on you network.
BRIGADE/Standard
1. Installing the License Server (BRIG_LM)
Log in as Administrator on the chosen machine.
Run the BRIGADE License Server installer
Choose
Install a full license server. This will install both the FlexNet license server (lmgrd) as well as the BRIGADE licensing vendor deamon (BRIG_LM).Browse to and select your license file (e.g.,
brigade.lic)The file will be saved in the installation directory if you tick the
Copy selected license file to the installation directorycheckbox. If you chose not to do this, the license file must not be deleted or moved elsewhere after server installation.
Complete the installation (follow the instructions during the installation) and restart the server.
Once installed, the license server runs in the background and distributes licenses to BRIGADE clients.
You can control that the license service is running on the computer if you open “Services” in Windows (search for “Services” in the windows taskbar). Choose “Run as administrator” when opening Services.
In the list of services, locate BRIGADE FlexNet License Service. Make sure that start type is Automatic if you want the service to start Automatically after for example restart of computer. Also make sure that the status is “Running”. If not, open the service dialog window (right-click → Properties or double click). Click on Start to start the service. If there is a need to restart, click Stop, wait for the status to change and then start again by clicking Start in the same dialog window.
2. Installing BRIGADE
Run the BRIGADE/Standard installer.
⚠️ Requires administrator rights.
When prompted, enter the hostname or IP address of the license server computer.
Choose the installation directory
The default installation path is located at:
C:\Program Files\Technia\BRIGADE StandardThe installer automatically creates a subfolder for each major version (e.g.,
\2025)
Complete the installation (follow the instructions during the installation).
You are now ready to start BRIGADE.
3. Running with a Test License
The setup above is identical even if you are using a temporary license.
Once you receive your permanent license, simply replace the old license file with the new one and restart the license server.
4. Troubleshooting First-Time Installation
BRIGADE/Standard won’t start:
Check that the license server computer is powered on and connected to the network.
Verify that the license server is running and is accepting request.
View the license server log-file
lmgrd.login your license server installation folder.
