Q: How does the '3DEXPERIENCE Integration' option influence configurations and derived configurations of weldment parts?

A: Influence of the '3DEXPERIENCE Integration' option on configurations and derived configurations of weldment parts.

Generally, the following document property is enabled in part templates:

Tools > Options > Document Properties > Weldments > Weldment options > Create derived configurations

When this is enabled and you insert a Weldment feature in a part, the SOLIDWORKS CAD software creates an <As Machined > configuration and an  <As Welded > derived configuration. This document property, in combination with the following system option, influences the product structure depending on when you insert a Weldment feature and save the file to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform:

Tools > Options > System Options > 3DEXPERIENCE Integration > Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

Scenario 1a:

  1. Enable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  2. Create a part

  3. Enable Create derived configurations

  4. Insert a Weldment feature

  5. Save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

The Configurations: CAD Family tab displays a Physical Product for the <As Machined > configuration and a Representation for the <As Welded > derived configuration.

Scenario 2a:

  1. Enable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  2. Create a part

  3. Disable Create derived configurations

  4. Insert a Weldment feature

  5. Save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

The Configurations: CAD Family tab displays a Physical Product for the <As Machined > configuration.

The product structure is different if you enable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform after you insert a Weldment feature and save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Scenario 1b:

  1. Disable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  2. Create a part

  3. Enable Create derived configurations

  4. Insert a Weldment feature

  5. Save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  6. Close the part

  7. Enable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  8. Open the part

  9. Update for 3DEXPERIENCE compatibility

The Configurations: CAD Family tab displays a Physical Product and two Representations, one for the <As Machined > configuration and one for the <As Welded > configuration.

Scenario 2b:

  1. Disable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  2. Create a part

  3. Disable Create derived configurations

  4. Insert a Weldment feature

  5. Save to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  6. Close the part

  7. Enable Update SOLIDWORKS files for compatibility with the 3DEXPERIENCE platform

  8. Open the part

  9. Update for 3DEXPERIENCE compatibility

The Configurations: CAD Family tab displays a Physical Product for the <As Machined > configuration.
