If resetting the CATUserSettings was NOT helpful for your problem, you can delete the newly created ‘Desktop’ folder and restore the old copied folder.
If resetting the CATUserSettings was helpful for your problem and you would like to have your old CATUserSettings settings back, you can iteratively restore the *.CATSettings files from the copied Desktop folder to find the *.CATSettings file that caused the problem and then no longer use it. This should solve your problem.
